Review
Thank you so much to Zephyr for sending me a copy of Dangerous Remedy, via NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review!
So, I have to be honest, I wasn’t really drawn in by the synopsis on this one. I’m not a huge fan of political intrigue type books and that seemed to be what this was, however, I’m really glad I read it because it was so much more than that!
This group of characters were brilliant and flawed, and I absolutely loved their interactions. I know people are going to compare this book to Six of Crows, because it happens EVERY time a book even slightly resembles a heist storyline, but Dangerous Remedy is more of a rescue story than a straight up heist story, and entirely holds up as its own special book. After the Battalion des Mortes complete a job, that was supposed to consist of breaking an influential man’s daughter out of prison, they realise something isn’t quite right. The girl is no ordinary girl, and, after the treatment she’s suffered through, ringleader Camille doesn’t think she can bring herself to hand her over. But with two waring parties looking for her, hiding her could result in the death of all of them.
Dangerous Remedy is full of adventure, action and magic. I mean the opening chapter includes a disaster with a hot air balloon – I was hooked right away. I’m actually really surprised this one hasn’t received much hype yet. If long descriptions and meandering writing is your thing, this might feel a bit too ‘break necked pace’ for you, but I loved the fast paced writing and drama filled narrative. I absolutely can’t wait for the next book!
