Beautiful twin sisters Iris and Summer are startlingly alike, but beyond what the eye can see lies a darkness that sets them apart. Cynical and insecure, Iris has long been envious of open-hearted Summer’s seemingly never-ending good fortune, including her perfect husband, Adam.
Called to Thailand to help sail the family yacht to the Seychelles, Iris nurtures her own secret hopes for what might happen on the journey. But when she unexpectedly finds herself alone in the middle of the Indian Ocean, everything changes.
Now is her chance to take what she’s always wanted – the idyllic life she’s always coveted. But just how far will she go to get the life she’s dreamed about? And how will she make sure no one discovers the truth?
Review
Thank you so much to Allen & Unwin for sending me a copy of The Girl in the Mirror, in exchange for an honest review!
Identical twins, Iris and Summer, have had a long held rivalry – but mostly on Iris’s part. She is jealous of Summer’s easy going and sunny personality and has always felt like the twin standing in her sisters shadow. When a family emergency has Summer and her husband calling for help from Iris, to sail their boat away from Thailand, Iris jumps at the chance. After all, she’s going to be sailing alone with Summer’s husband, who she harbours more than a few fantasies about. But things don’t go to plan and Iris finds herself in terrifying circumstances, alone on the boat in the ocean. But Iris now has a chance to step into her ideal life. If she can pull it off and fool everyone who knows her, she could end up a millionaire with the perfect life.
The Girl in the Mirror was a fantastic thriller that had me on the edge of my seat. Iris made some rash decisions, out of jealousy and desperation, that she thought she could come clean on later. When things spiralled out of control, she found herself in a never-ending snowball of lies. Part mystery, part thriller, part race to a prize, The Girl in the Mirror was full of twists and turns that kept me guessing. I did skim over a lot of the ‘boat terms’ because I have absolutely no knowledge of sailing, but I could figure out what was going on in the end. I also had to suspend belief about no-one being able to tell the twins apart, other than their scar, even their own mother. Is that a thing? Does that really happen? 😅 But all in all, if you’re looking for a fun and engaging thriller, set in both Australia and exotic locations, with an explosive ending, The Girl in the Mirror is for you!
